Holland Lop Nationals

What a fun trip to York, PA!  The girl’s and I left for Pennsylvania Thursday afternoon, after stopping to pick up a fellow youth rabbit enthusiast.   We drove to about half way and stopped for the night, then continued on the next morning.   Mapquest failed us with some wrong directions in York, but we finally found the Expo Center and got the rabbits checked in without any problems.   The Convention Hotel was very nice and conveniently located to the Expo Center.

It was really nice to be able to put faces with the names of breeders that I’ve heard about and rabbitries that I’ve drooled over on-line.  I was able to meet the Washburn’s, Tony Cox, Tracy & Jenna of THF Saynora, Jason Coin, the folks from Y&K, Mrs. Yoder from CSR and others.

All along, I was thinking I would probably be really humiliated with our success on the tables since this is where ‘the big boys play’ and was hoping to place in the upper half of the classes and would be really happy with a placing in the top 25%.  Well, here is how we did:

GBF’s Caden — 2nd place SJB out of 79 entries! Caden was 3rd Place in the Specialty Show on Sunday!!

GBF’s Tahlia — 5th place SSD out of 61 entries! Tahlia was 19th Place of 47 entries in the Specialty Show on Sunday!!

GBF’s Topeka — 9th place BSD out of 38 entries! Topeka placed 9th again of 30 entries in the Specialty Show on Sunday!!

GBF’s Talora — 21st place SSD of 61 entries!

(Note that Tahlia, Topeka and Talora are littermates.)

GBF’s Elias — 14th place BJB out of 46 entries! Elias was 2nd Place of 19 entries in the Specialty Show on Sunday under Judge Allen Ormond!!  Local breeder Stephanie Valentine took 1st place with her lush buck.

So, wow.  Five of the six rabbits we took placed.  Three of them in the top 10.  I hadn’t planned on going to the Banquet but quickly changed my mind at the end of the day on Saturday.  The awards were stained glass Holland’s and some etched glass pieces.  There was some murmuring when Abby was called up for the 5th place SSD award.  The girls and I show in Open.  So, when little Abby went up to receive an Open award for Tahlia, I think people thought there was a mistake.  She was so proud!

Abby entered Ritz Bitz and Ki entered Hopkins in the Fun Show.  It was judged by Groups, rather then by Solids and Brokens.  Both girls and their bunnies got 2nd places.  They brought their special bunnies with them for the trip as they couldn’t bear to be away from them for so long.  It was cute.

So, we are home now and the bunnies are put away.  Of course, I couldn’t come home without something new to add.  I have a SSD from Tony Cox, a SJB from BBC, and a BSD from THF Saynora.   Anxious to see what happens with some breedings with these new rabbits!
